We’ve reached the tail end of another week, beautifuls!! Before I launch into my newest edition of 5 Finds 4 Friday, I have to ask y’all something. How was your week? Are you excited about the weekend? I hope your answers to both questions are genuinely positive, enthusiastic ones!
So much has happened this week. Colin Kaepernick was chosen as GQ’s Citizen of the Year, and while most of us are celebrating, some folks are DEEP in their feelings about it. Beyoncé has been spotted outside with braids and her laptop (not to mention her 5 month old twins) this week. Seeing the babies made me smile, but seeing those braids and laptop makes me want to start hording my coins. Because I know she is COMING for our bank accounts!! This week, The Barbs got their lives as much as the Bey Hive did, and all I can say is come the hell on through, Onika!!! In other news, The SEXIEST Man Alive?!? Really?!?!? Last but not least, Olympic fencer and all around badass Ibtihaj Muhammad will be the first Hijabi Barbie, and I’ve promptly added it to my Christmas wish list. Let’s commence with this week’s Finds, shall we?!?
Can’t You… Feel the… Brand New Day?!?!?
I knew deep in my spirit that Michaela Coel wouldn’t do us like that!! That’s right Chewing Gum fans… We are getting a third series of the amazingly hilarious series! My Tronner Ship just got a new gust a wind and the voyage continues!! Read all about it on Okay Africa.
Black People Are Magic…
When I see videos like this, I always wonder why anti-blackness exists in this world. Look at how these folks remixed Cardi B’s Bodack Yellow and took it to church. In addition, look how they bloody KILLED it and made me look around for a collection plate to make it rain on! I’m high-key in my feelings I wasn’t invited to this fete!!
Since the Songs, T-Shirts, Buttons & SAYING IT Doesn’t Seem to Work…
How brilliant is this story?!? Armed with an exceptional mind and the know-how, coupled with the real-life experience most of us Naturalistas know all too well, the video game Hair Nah was created. In the game, you get to customize your avatar with a swoon-worthy assortment of melanated skin tones and hair ‘dos. The objective?!? Keep them hands out of your hair!! What inspired the creator, Momo Pixel, to design the game?!? She explained it in a well-composed tweet, “So I made a game cause I got tired of women putting their hands in my hair. #donttouchmyhair #hairnah”. Trust me, you’ll be hooked on this game. Show her some well deserved appreciation, and visit www.hairnah.com to check it out.
This Week in “They TRIED It….”
‘Get Out’ is a documentary.
— Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) November 15, 2017
My eyebrows raised so high when I read the news that Get Out was being entered as a comedy during the upcoming awards season, they almost got stuck in my hairline. This practice isn’t new at all, mind you. Last year, Matt Damon’s film The Martian was entered in the comedy/musical category, despite it being a film in the Sci-Fi genre. Despite knowing this my racist conspiracy Spidey senses are tingling a plenty. And according to the buzz this news has gained on social media (Including the above tweet from Get Out creator Jordan Peele himself), I’m not the only one. Decide for yourself and read all about it on Jezebel.
BAE-watch: Jason Momoa Edition
Because of my Pirate Sistah status, I feel like I’ve been well aware of Jason Momoa, his extraordinary luck and privilege to be married to Lilakoi Moon (The artist formerly known as Lisa Bonet), and their terrific life together. Imagine my joy when the rest of the world has finally taken notice of the consort of Pirate Freeda Bandita and the obvious reason for his immense joy. Read all about it on Elle.
Now that I’ve shared my finds…. Let’s Dish!!! Tell me which of this week’s 5 Finds 4 Friday really resonated with you. Do you have a find for this week you’d like to share? Leave it in the comments!
