Cheers to the freakin’ weekend, y’all! This week has been a tough one for yours truly, as I’ve been ill. But, I still have a brand new 5 Finds 4 Friday to share with you all today! You’re worth it!
A lot has happened this week, if you think about it. So the Blac Chyna/Rob Kardashian mess-a-palooza has the potential to get real serious rather quickly. The Emmy Awards nominees were announced this week, and I’m already calling shenanigans that Insecure was snubbed. Last but not least, I think that Shia LaBouf should take his considerable money and go on holiday somewhere. But let’s get down with the finds.
Why I’m Keeping My $15
Every time I watch a video on YouTube, I’m assaulted by another ad for the Sofia Coppola film, The Beguiled. A film, after reading the back story on her erasure of black and biracial characters in the original script, I had already decided to opt out of. When I saw Elle Fanning’s IG photo, I was glad for that decision. For an excellent perspective of exactly why the film is problematic, read this article from Vulture.
Is It Really All That Difficult?
When Hollywood needs to cast a terrorist for their latest film, they have no problem seeking out Desi and Middle Eastern actors for the role. So why don’t they consult their “terrorist” folder to find a suitable actor for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin? Director Guy Ritchie is apparently having a heck of a time with casting, and people of color all over social media are wonder, “Why?“. "what agency are you with?"
I'M ?? THE ?? STATE ?? ATTORNEY ?? https://t.co/Z0nQL1B4iW

I bet the police officers decided to randomly pull over this car, a practice most commonly known as “profiling”, they thought it would be routine and by the (racist) book. Little did they know that they were about to get their world rocked. Why? Because the Orlando Police Department officers pulled over Florida’s only black state attorney, Aramis Ayala. Whomp whomp whomp. The resulting exchange is both entertaining and infuriating at the same time. Read all about it on The Root.
This Week In “She TRIED It…”
Sometimes you say something to a friend or family member, knowing that it’s absolutely ludicrous, but say it because you’re in your feelings. Your comments generally stay between you and the person you chose to share them with, but what would happen if suddenly the entire world was made aware of them? Would the dragging that would commence be justified? I’m guessing Madonna was in her feelings about life and stardom, and took to writing this letter by way of venting. Why else would she fix her mind to even THINK that the late, great Whitney Houston was mediocre. She was a lot of things, but mediocre? Nah, son! Read more about the letter, which is up for auction, on Jezebel.
Usually, I wait until the end of my finds for the post I had the most to talk about. But it’s been a long week, Curl Fest is tomorrow, and I believe we should end this on a high note. So here’s a fun song to ring in the weekend!!
Now that I’ve shared my finds…. Let’s Dish!!! Tell me which of this week’s 5 Finds 4 Friday really resonated with you. Do you have a find for this week you’d like to share? Leave it in the comments!
