It’s April!!! Spring has officially spring in NYC, and I couldn’t be happier! As a matter of fact, it is pouring rain as I write these words… Talk about April Showers! It’s also the first Friday of the month, and I’m happy to be sharing my latest 5 Finds 4 Friday with you all today!
A lot has happened this week. Alicia Keys should really rethink her social media posts before hitting “submit“. Even ones with the best of intentions can fail miserably, and this is a prime example of that. The newest season of Doctor Who hasn’t even started yet, and the bigoted corner of the fandom is in their feelings. #TeamBill. And last but not least, if you are a fan of the blog (and how could you not?) The Curvy Fashionista, you might have noticed my contributions the past few months. It’s because I am now a part of the TCF Style Team! The experience thus far has been amazingly rewarding. I’ve learned a lot, and I hope to be a better blogger as a result. Hooray! While we are in a celebratory mood… Let’s get the finds started!
Kill It With Fire
I’d like to consider myself a pretty open-minded person when it comes to food. I’m game to try new foods. I like spicy, ethnic, even innovative versions of classics. But this right here? Naw, son. Spaghetti is fantastic. Donut? Love ’em! But the idea of combining the two makes me retch. I may be missing out on a delight my taste buds have never experienced, but OH. WELL. While I plan on making several trips to Smorgasburg this spring and summer, I personally will be not be trying a Spaghetti Donut. If you are all about the S.D. life (and I’m not judging you… much), read all about them at Gothamist.
And Speaking Of Foods NO ONE Asked For…
I’m turning 40 this year in November. It’s pretty much safe to say that I’m a GROWN ASS WOMAN. That being said, I also enjoy watching cartoons. And on occasion, I’ve watched while eating some yummy cereal with a cartoon on the box. But with almond milk. Because grown up. I’ve never wished for a box of cereal that had the children’s aesthetic, but is made for those of us who pay taxes. However, it appears that others have, as Motel has released a line of Adult XXX cereals. With names like Booty Pop, Sugar Tits, and Vice Krispies, the cereals runs for $11 a box. Don’t judge me, but I low-key want to try Vice Krispies! When you ARE done judging me, read all about this cereal line on Refinery 29.
This Week in Black Girl Magic
Can we take a moment to appreciate Michaela Coel on the blog today? I had honestly thought I had written about how happy Chewing Gum has made me since it’s entered my life, but I hadn’t. This week season two of the show dropped on Netflix and I got my edges snatched by this stunning photo shoot. It helped me through a few trying times this week, I will tell you that. Read the article and show Michaela some love at Vibe.com.
I’ve enjoyed sharing my Blogger’s Bookshelf the last Friday of every month (and I hope you do, too!). But it always drives me banana sandwich when something HUGE happens. Such was the case when Bill O’Reilly fixed his pasty face to insult GENUINE NATIONAL TREASURE Maxine Waters. Not because he disagreed with her stance. He chose to take shots at her appearance. And while Maxine clapped back as only she can, enough is enough! For years, Bill O’Reilly has attacked women, Black people, and Black culture. He’s gotta go! So, when I was given the opportunity to ask “Fox and Friends” to #DropOReilly now, I jumped on it! If you believe in a Bill pink slip, join me by signing this petition from Color of Changecx.
Countering Racism with Carbonated Beverages & More Advertising Fails
I don’t believe I’ve ever seen quite a collection of a Ls than the ones that the advertising community assembled this week. From Kylie Jenner curing the world of racism by handing Pepsi in her expertly manicured hand, to Nivea letting us know that White = Purity, there’s failure all around. Perhaps we as a society have become too sensitive, or perhaps we’re tired of businesses letting us know how little we matter while asking for our hard-earned dollars at the same time. Read about this on AfroPunk.com.
Now that I’ve shared my finds…. Let’s Dish!!! Tell me which of this week’s 5 Finds 4 Friday really resonated with you. Do you have a find for this week you’d like to share? Leave it in the comments!
